Looking for a cool way to insult your friends? You might want to call them “cheugy.” This new term has been all over the internet, and it seems to be a popular way for Gen Z to mock other generations.

If you’ve heard the word, you likely know it rose in popularity thank to TikTok. This slang word has been used to describe an out-of-date trend or the person who follows them. By this point in time, something that was cool in 2015 is now considered cheugy. So if you’re passing your time with a fidget spinner, you’re probably cheugy.

Calling someone cheugy usually holds the implication that the person using the term is not. Brands, celebrities, social media, and language all have the potential to be classified as cheugy. Of all the terms that have come to describe uncoolness, is cheugy really the worst?

I’ve taken a long, hard look at myself. I think I’m cheugy, and quite frankly, I don’t care.

What Makes You Cheugy

Let’s be real, the word cheugy seems weird and made up. It’s just the latest slang word and will likely sound dated in a few years. However, it does describe a real phenomenon that’s existed for generations. Cheugy people are the ones who are trying to follow trends, but they’re behind the curve.
